What is a Valance?

Valance definition - A window treatment that hangs across the top of drapery to hide a curtain rod or to add decoration.

Ideal Home Garden Explains

The iron rod that holds a curtain can look very bland as well as it can be an eyesore. A valance is used to add a little bit more slash to ordinary curtains and will also make the curtains look a little classier. There are many different styles and often they can be purchased in a set of drapes.
